Francia means " Frankland - land of Franks " France has many people with a foreign background, about 56% of its population. That makes this country a one of the most diverse European countries. Immigrants have been coming from all continents (Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia). In the year 2005 most people came from China and the UK. Despite that there are many types of lanscape and they extremely vary from region to region. There are ocean front resorts, suburbs, high Alps territories or famous French Riviera. There is a civil legal France system. That means that french law arises from written statutes. The role of french judges is not to create law but just to interpret it. Basics of the french law came from the Napoleon Code. French law has two areas: private and public law. There is also civil and criminal law included under privat law. And under public law you will find administrative and constitutional law. There is no religious law in France. France is a part of the European Union (founding member), United Nations, WTO, SPC, COI and partially NATO member. Estimated population of the French Republic is about 64 mil. people that makes this country 23rd bigger in the world. Largest cities: Paris, Lyon, Nice, Marseille, Toulouse and Nantes.
