Nice Jazz Festival
The Nice Jazz festival on the French Riviera
(Cote dīazur) has turned 60 this year (2008) . It has been here since
1948.
During 1920īs and 30īs City
of Nice became interested in new music style that was imported from
across the Atlantic ocean. This new music was adopted by some of the
famous Riviera hotels like Negresco, Ruhl and Palais de la Mediterranee. The
first Nice Jazz Festival took place at Nice opera house where top famous
players like Louis Armstrong, Stephane Grapelli or Django Reinhardt
performed that time. However, the next jazz festival took place after long
23 years period in 1971 and was held in Theatre de Verdure. The
Nice Jazz Festival has 3 stages: The
Matisse stage in the evening, the arena stage and the Garden stage. There
are 2 artists hosts during each stage every day.
